Ford Motors India Sale Jump 39% in Dec 2011

Ford Motors India has posted 39% rise in sales during December 2011 to 5,979 units as compared to 4,301 units sold during the corresponding month of 2010. In 2011, the firm has sold 96,270 units in the domestic market, 15% surge as against the previous year. 

Mr Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director, Ford India, said,“It’s incredibly gratifying to see that our domestic sales have grown at such a steady pace, particularly given the challenging market environment. Overall, 2011 was a strong and positive year where we crossed many milestones. With work commencing on our second plant in Sanand, expansion of the powertrain facility in Chennai, the launch of the All-New global Fiesta, and Ford Figo’s growing popularity in 2011 gave us many proud moments to cherish.”

India has emerged as an increasingly significant exporter of Ford vehicles last year, with the shipments touching 22,521 units, nearly three times the number exported in 2010.

During 2011, Ford India has also expanded its export stronghold for the Figo to 32 nations, with Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast added in December.

The price of the Toyota Etios diesel ranges between Rs. 6.44 lakh – 7.87 lakh while the offer price of the Manza diesel ranges between Rs. 5.87 lakh – 7.38 lakh. The Manza is significantly cheaper (Rs. 10,000 – 50,000 depending on variant) than the Etios and comes with more features. Hence, the Manza with the offer price has a better ‘value for money’ proposition than the Etios.

Clearly, the base variant of the Manza is close to the price of Dzire and gets a few additional features than the Dzire. Similarly, the mid variant of the Manza is closely priced to the Dzire and also gets a host of additional features not found in the Dzire. Hence, the Manza’ base and mid variant have a better ‘value for money’ proposition than the Dzire. However, when it comes to the top-end variants, the Dzire still has a better ‘value for money’ proposition for it offers the essentials at a significantly cheaper price though it lacks a few comfort features offered in the Manza top-end variant.

BMW Cars To launch BMW Mini in India

BMW to launch Mini in India at starting price of Rs 25 lakh. At a time car sales are sliding, luxury car maker BMW Cars is set to launch the British marque Mini in India at a starting price of Rs 25 lakh. The German car maker will start importing the iconic small car within the next two months and open two flagship dealerships, in Delhi and Mumbai. BMW will bring in the entire range of the Mini - comprising its popular variants Cooper, Countryman, Club door and the Cabrio. The top-end Club man is likely to cost around Rs 30 lakh and come with a complete sports package and accessories. 

 

The Mini is among the original British cars that heralded a new era in motoring in the 1960s, with its space-saving front wheel-drive layout. Its smooth and sporty retro design has influenced a generation of car makers ever since. The best-selling Suzuki Swift, for instance, carries forward the same design philosophy. But the original Mini continues to sell in large numbers. Clocking more than 2.34 lakh units a year worldwide, it sells the highest in the US, followed by Britain, Germany and Japan.

"The Mini comes to India finally after years of hectic feasibility and surveys," BMW India President Andreas Schaaf told ET, adding the company will showcase the car in the Auto Expo in January 2012.

Luxury car maker Skoda India has launched its entry level C-segment sedan Skoda Rapid in India in both manual and automatic variants.It is available in three trim levels and in both petrol and diesel engine options.The three trim levels include Active, Ambition and Elegance. The Elegance variant features 15-inch alloy wheels,driver and passenger airbags.

Rapid is powered by the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines of Volkswagen Vento which pumps out a power of 105bhp. Rapid looks similar to Skoda’s Fabia and its headlights,grille and the fogs are as same as the Skoda Fabia. The car features a new longer bonnet,new fenders,a slightly altered chin at the corners and a new, more sculpted bumper. Its interior is almost similar to VW modelsept the steering wheel without steering-mounted controls,instrument panel,gearlever and audio system.

The rear part of the car looks completely different and the tail-lights are inserted with Skoda’s “C” motif. Rapid is now available at a starting price of Rs.6.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
