Commonwealth Games 2010 Transport Facilities

India is all set to host its first ever Commonwealth Games from October 3, 2010 to October 14, 2010. New bridges, cloverleafs and flyovers are under construction to provide intra-city connectivity as well as access to sports venues, Games Village, hotels and hospitals. During the event, the national capital will have a "five tier" transport system to for swift movement of athletes, sports personnel and city traffic. The elaborate transport network, will ensure best & fast movement of 7500 athletes, officials, referees and media persons throughout the multi-sport event. Delhi Transport Corporation and Tata Motors would be responsible for the transport arrangements during the Games.

Here are the details of five tier transport system for Commonwealth Games - Delhi 2010.

Tier 1

T1 category would focus on the movement of various top level sports personnels in Commonwealth Games 2010. The vehicles in this category will have a fleet of 485 dedicated cars, to be used by the top level officials including Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell. India's leading car manufacturer Tata motors will provide the required number of cars to Commonwealth games Organizing Committee for this purpose.

Tier 2

The T2 category of CWG 2010 transport system will serve the On-Call Car Service for Delhi's biggest hosting of a sporting event. 1000 cars will be deployed for this purpose which would be operational on the days of the Games. Manufacturers of world's cheapest car Tata Nano - the Tata will provide the cars for this purpose. Along with this, the Indian automobile giant will also provide 3000 drivers and support staff for Commonwealth Games 2010 transport system .

Tier 3

The T3 category will be the core of Commonwealth Games 2010 transport mechanism. This category will host the movement of athletes between different CWG 2010 venues, games village and other places. For the swift movement of over 7500 athletes for different sports, the Delhi transport corporation will employ a total of 349 fully air conditioned buses. The motive to reduce the traveling time of players has been achieved by the construction of various flyovers, underpasses etc. The buses used in CWG 2010 transport system are not to have any speed governors.

Tier 4

The T4 category will represent India's hospitality towards world media. The T4 category will involve a total of 225 fully air conditioned buses from DTC. These luxury buses will ensure privileged movement of media persons and technical officials from all over the world. For world class service, the drivers of these buses have been given special training as well as training to deal with ant unwanted malicious act. The drivers will be given radio sets to locate their movements and location.

Tier 5

The T5 category will serve the general public as well as tourists and visitors from different parts of the world. Delhi's basic public transport system for Commonwealth Games 2010 will include taxi services, latest technology endowed low floor DTC buses and national capital's life line - Delhi Metro. Besides this, a 24X7 helpline call center is to be set up to help the riders in traveling.
