Electric Cars In India

Electric cars are the future of transportation across the globe. While there has been some path breaking progress made in electric cars technology, India is not behind in this race. Realizing the importance of using alternate fuels to power cars, lots of R&D is being done in this direction to come up with an efficient and economical technology. A number of automobile companies have developed their variants of electric cars. The concept of electric cars boasts off the idea of eco-friendly beauties across the world.

Here is a list of some electric cars running or expected on Indian roads.

Reva

Reva holds reputation as India's first electric car. Rolled out in 2001, Reva offers affordability with the lowest running and maintenance cost An efficient Energy Management system (EMS) avoids the problem of over discharging and helps in better maintenance. Safety features include steel space frame, side impact beams, dent-proof ABS body panels, a low voltage system, and a dual-braking system.

Tata Indica Vista - Electric


Tata motors are also upfront in this new race of cars in India. There are plans to role out an electric variant for Tata's best selling car in India. Indica Vista - electric was displayed in Delhi Auto Expo 2010 and has super polymer lithium ion batteries. ,These powerful batteries will make Vista electric more powerful and faster than its gasoline and diesel variants. Impressive power, torque and acceleration figures make Tata Indica Vista - electric - a car of the future.

Price - 6 lakhs to 7 lakhs

Mitsubishi E-car

Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors is also geared up for India's upcoming automobile market making its electric car. Planned to be powered by lithium-ion batteries that can be charged up to 80 per cent in 30 minutes with a special charging system, the Mitsubshi e-car would have a motor placed at the back of the car.

E - Nano

Carrying the tag of world's cheapest car, Tata Nano is all set to set top transmit a high voltage spark in electric car market also. The E-Nano will come in association with Norwegian electric car specialist Miljoebil Grenland. Expected to be launched in 2010, E-Nano rides high on the expectation of customers after a huge success of Tata Nano.

Hero Electric

India's largest cycle manufacturer - Hero motors is also planning to enter the electric car segment with their new car. Company has plans to revolutionize the electric car segment by replacing the use of conventional batteries with capacitors for instant charging. The car is expected to be launched by 2013.
